Today is the 17 May 2016, 29 Years ago today, many of my shipmates on the U.S.S. Stark were
killed as they "Cruise on Patrol" in the 'Persian gulf, lets' never forget this wonderful and
fantastic ship. God Bless the souls of the crew who went to 'Naval Heaven" on that horrible
day, and let's not never forget one of my dear shipmates who was like a 'brother to me,' Senior Chief Vernon Foster, the Quartermaster and Navigation Genius of the U.S. Stark.
I served as the embarked PAO on board the Stark during the Great Lakes Cruise of 1985, and it was a magnificent cruise of Naval Awareness for the citizens of the United States
and Canada, as we cruised all five of the Great Lakes during the months of June, July, and
August, Summertime - 1985. I can never forget my 'genius shipmates' of the U.S.S. Stark (FFG-31)which was based at Mayport, Florida. 2. Thank you for your words. I guess it was a way of fate that I was station on STARK. I grew up in Rochester, NY and joined the Navy's Delayed Entry Program (DEP) in October 1984. I finished my senior year of high school in 85' and had the summer off before heading to Great Lakes, Boot-camp in September 1985. I actually toured USS STARK on its Great Lakes tour in Oswego, NY (I believe). I loved the STARK crew when I toured them in upstate, NY and was even prouder when I had orders to her in 1986 after my schooling was complete.

Thank you for your service Captain.
